Vincent de Kastav, Jesus' Entry into Jerusalem

As always in this iconographic type, Jesus enters from the left on an ass, followed by the twelve Apostles. Usually we see someone putting a garment on the path before him, but this time it is a long bolt of red velvet. Also a little different is the way Kastav uses flowers to represent the placing of olive branches in Jesus' way.

Origen said that the welcomers represent the prophets and saints who lived before Christ and were awaiting him. It may be that the old man in the window represents the former and the two smiling greeters the latter.
